This small vase features Sea Hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceus), which grows on the beach on Munamudanamy/Hinchinbrook Island in northern Queensland.
The vase is built in dark clay, painted with porcelain slip and underglaze, and carved to create the botanical design. A clear glaze is applied inside and on the plant only, leaving the clay background matte.
