This large vase was created during my residency at BigCi Australia. It features the emerging flowers of Saw Banksia (Banksia serrata) from Wollemi National Park.
The vase is built in white grainy clay, painted with slips and underglaze, and carved to create the botanical design. The exterior is unglazed, giving the plant a velvety matte quality. The inside is clear glazed.
