Coastal Tea Tree (Gaudium laevigatum or Leptospermum laevigatum) grows in my local area of Victoria. In spring, it is covered with a profusion of five-petalled flowers.
This large work is the final piece available from my recent solo exhibition, Sandbelt.
The vessel is coil-built in white clay and is oval in cross-section. The surface is painted with multiple layers of underglaze and carved to create the botanical design. It is clear-glazed on the inside and on the flowers only, contrasting with the matte leaves and clay.
Dimensions: H 31 x W 28 x D 17 cm
